NATURE CONSERVATION

Nature Conservation is promoted by the Countryside Service through the careful management of wildlife sites such as Horsenden Hill, Brent River Park and the Litten Local Nature Reserve.

NOISE

Complaints of intrusive noise from both residential and commercial premises are investigated by Pollution Control and action is taken to prevent nuisance.  This covers everything from noisy neighbours and loud music to barking dogs, industrial processes and roadworks.

Officers can be contacted via a pager to respond to ongoing investigations up to Midnight on Monday to Friday.  A Party Patrol operates on Friday and Saturday nights from 11.00pm to 4.00am to respond to complaints, particularly about noisy parties.

Conditions are imposed on new developments, both to protect the occupier of the development from noise, and to prevent noise from the development affecting neighbours.   Aircraft, road and rail noise are all monitored.  A full acoustic laboratory is maintained.

NOISE INSULATION

Householders wishing to take advantage of the noise insulation grants available through the council for property affected by new road schemes should contact the number below.

NOTICEBOARDS

The council has 65 noticeboard sites in prominent places around the borough. Local organisations may buy space on these noticeboards. Smaller posters may be displayed in libraries, community centres and recreation and sports centres etc. Contact them directly.

NURSERY CENTRES

The nursery centres listed below provide a service to children in need age 1-5 years who are in need, and their families, mostly on a part-time basis. Applicants must be supported by a written professional opinion.

Each nursery centre has a toy library facility which is open to the public.

NURSERY EDUCATION

Nursery schools and classes take children aged between three and five years. Parental visits are welcomed to see the nursery and find out about nursery education.
