HARASSMENT
The Council takes seriously all reports of racial harassment. If you are a private tenant or owner occupier contact the local police station or housing advisory service. If you are a council tenant, contact your local area housing office. If you are a council tenant and suffer sexual or any other type of harassment or domestic violence, contact your local housing office.
The Environmental Health and Consumer Services division is responsible for occupational health and safety in offices, shops, warehouses, restaurants, hotels and hostels in the borough. These workplaces are regularly inspected to ensure satisfactory working conditions, and many accidents reported are investigated to ensure safe working practices. Inspections are also carried out to prevent the risk of legionalla in commercial air conditioning units. Certified one day courses are provided on basic health and safety at work.

HISTORIC BUILDINGS
The council is responsible for the management of Pitshanger Manor, Mattock Lane, Ealing, W5, a building of outstanding historic importance built by Sir John Soane. The manor is open as a museum from Tuesday to Saturday. Contact the Museum Keeper 579 2424 ext 42683. The council is also jointly responsible for the Gunnersbury Park Museum, Popes Lane, together with the London Borough of Hounslow. The museum is open in the afternoons only 992 1612. The council runs a number of playschemes throughout the borough during the holidays. These are organised at playcentres, sports and leisure centres, libraries and community centres. HOUSEHOLD REFUSE
Refuse collection takes place weekly from all 118,000 domestic properties in the borough and supplies of black plastic sacks are delivered four times a year, except to those properties served by paladins. There is no limit to the number of sacks you can leave out for collection, although only one sack of garden waste is allowed. Please always tie your sacks at the top to avoid spillage and ensure they are placed within the boundary of your own property, near the road on the day of collection. Please do not place your sacks on the highway as this is an offence. Please recycle as must waste as possible. Never put hazardous substances in your refuse sacks and wrap all sharp objects. (A clinical waste service exists for items such as syringes and dressings). Contact number below.

A house in multiple occupation (HMO) is a house or flat occupied by more than one household. If you share accommodation with other people your house or flat may be an HMO. HMOs include hostels, guest houses, bedsits, houses converted into flats and shared flats. HMOs must have an adequate means of escape in case of fire. They must also have adequate cooking and personal washing facilities, be in reasonable repair and properly managed.

HOUSING ADVICE
The council's Housing Advisory Service provides advice and help on many problems including homelessness, domestic violence, housing waiting lists, legal rights of private tenants and responsibilities of private landlords/landladies. HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS
In general, housing associations do not accept direct applications. Housing associations provide rented housing to people applying to the council for housing. If you apply for housing from the council, you may be offered a home provided by a housing association. A few associations may take direct applications from people with special needs (for example elderly people).
HOUSING BENEFIT/COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT
If you pay rent or council tax you may qualify for help, particularly if you are on a low income or getting Income Support. Claims for housing benefit and council tax benefit should be made to the Benefits Section. The main benefits reception is in the 'village' behind Ealing Town Hall and is open to the public between 9am-4pm Mon-Fri. There is also a benefits reception point at 301 Ruislip Road, Greenford. Council tenants may be able to swap their home with another council or housing association tenant, if the council agrees. Contact your local housing office.
HOUSING IMPROVEMENTS (COUNCIL HOUSING)
A planned programme of improvements, major repairs and cyclical decoration works to individual properties, and whole estates is organised and managed by the Housing Investment Team. For information about the current programme, phone 020 8832 6410.
HOUSING SERVICE
The council's housing service provides for council tenants, private tenants, homeless families and home owners. If you live in the borough of Ealing and you are over 18 years old, you can apply to go on the Housing Register to be considered for council or housing association property. If you are an elderly person living in Ealing, you can apply for Sheltered Housing. Application forms are available from address below. A drop-in service is available at this office but you may have a long wait.
