GARAGES

GARDEN WASTE

The council will collect one sack of garden waste per household as part of the weekly collection service. Please make sure the waste is contained safely in the standard size refuse sack. If you have more than a sackful you can either use the special collection service or preferably take it direct to the Greenford Waste & Recycling Centre where there is a separate bay for composting.

GATING SCHEME

This scheme encourages residents to secure alleys and passages behind homes to reduce the incidence of burglary.

GLASS RECYCLING

There are 57 glass and bottle banks in the borough. Please take care to dispose of the correct glass (jars and bottles) in the relevant colour bank (green, clear or brown). Do not dispose of plate glass or ceramic tableware in these banks as this will contaminate the load. If possible, please remove any pieces of plastic and metal first and only deposit glass between the hours of 9.00am and 9.00pm in the interests of any nearby residents.

The council has three golf courses with a full range of facilities and two pitch and putt courses. There are also a wide range of golf coaching courses available from the Sports Development Team.

GRAND UNION VISION

Plans are in hand for the development of a sustainable urban village on the Taylor Woodrow site alongside the canal at Ruislip Road. This is a community planning project involving Taylor Woodrow and a development team of consultants, Ealing and Hillingdon Councils, Ealing LA21 and local people.

Commissioning Teams for children are based at Acton and Greenford location. All referrals should be made to the Referral and Assessment Team at either Acton or Greenford. There is also a hospital based social work team based at Ealing Hospital Tel: 020 8843 1636.

Commissioning teams for Mental Health are based in the locality Mental Health Resource Centres provided by the NHS trust.

GRANTS - HOUSE RENOVATION (PRIVATE)

House renovation grants are available for bringing privately-owned properties up to standard and for installing basic amenities where they are lacking. A means test applies and grants are subject to conditions. The council's Home Improvement Agency can help the elderly and people with disabilities, and arrange for them to have grant-aided work carried out.

GRANTS - VOLUNTARY SECTOR

Ealing council gives almost £2.5m each year to local voluntary and community organisations. The Grants Unit is responsible for co-ordinating council-wide grant aid to Ealing's voluntary sector. Types of groups supported range through playgroups, senior citizens groups, arts and youth groups and welfare organisations. For further information on how to and the requirements that have to be met to qualify contact the Grants Unit. In addition there are small grants under special grant funds for arts, community centres, entertainment, holiday projects, sport, under eights, playgroups and youth.
