Complaints about disrepair and lack of amenities in rented housing both in the private and public sector, are investigated by Environmental Health and action taken to ensure that conditions are improved. Advice is given by Environmental Health about problems with drains and sewers. Blocked or defective drains and sewers may be examined and action taken to ensure that they are in a satisfactory condition. Council tenants should contact their housing office in the first instance.

The council co-ordinates its work on drugs issues with the district health authority through a drugs action team.
