Social services provides day centres for mentally ill people, older people and people with disabilities who need care, support and rehabilitation. Please contact your local commissioning team. . Placements are arranged as part of a care support package and if you think it would help please contact Assessment Team, Local Team or Learning Disability Team Mental Health.

DEVELOPMENT MONITORING AND LAND SUPPLY

This work identifies changes in borough's stock of land and buildings over time, based on data from planning applications.  Reports and tables are available for sale, and customised reports can be prepared as specified.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN POLICIES

Community involvement is an essential part of work on development plan policies in the Plan for the Environment - ie Sustainable Development (ensuring that development is located and designed to meet needs, minimise resource use, waste and pollution, and promote nature conservation), Environment for All (community led planning, to involve and meet needs for all sections of the population), Strategic Planning (relating to national, regional and London-wide matters, and borough-wide co-ordination), and a range of key topics - open land and outdoor recreation, built environment, environmental standards, housing, employment, shopping and town centres, community facilities, transport.  There is also an area focus to some of this work, particularly as it relates to the borough's town and district centres and to Park Royal, see also Plan for the Environment.

DISABLED BUS PASSES/PERMITS

For people registered disabled, permits give free travel on most London Transport bus and rail services, and reduced fares on British Rail and some Green Line coach services within greater London. For details contact the I.AT (Information and Assessment Team) on 020 8579 2424.

DISABILITY

Specific help is available for people with disabilities including: telephone installation - available to people with disabilities who live alone, are housebound and who may need to summoned help in an emergency, disability registration; holiday grants - for people with permanent and substantial disabilities; travel permits; equipment and adaptations to homes. Reports of disconnections of electricity, gas and water supplies in domestic premises are investigated by Environmental Health and, in some circumstances, action is taken to restore supplies.

DISREPAIR

Complaints about disrepair and lack of amenities in rented housing both in the private and public sector, are investigated by Environmental Health and action taken to ensure that conditions are improved.  Council tenants with disrepair problems should contact their housing office in the first instance.

DOGS

Dog Warden Service operates to deal with stray and dangerous dogs during the hours of 9.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.  Calls are taken by the Environment Group Call Centre.

DRAINS

Advice is given by Environmental Health about problems with drains and sewers.   Blocked or defective drains and sewers may be examined and action taken to ensure that they are in a satisfactory condition.  Council tenants should contact their housing office in the first instance.

DRINKING WATER SUPPLIES

Complaints about drinking water are investigated by Environmental Health and supplies are taken regularly to ensure that supplies are satisfactory and comply with legal standards.

DRUGS

The council co-ordinates its work on drugs issues with the district health authority through a drugs action team. For advice and information on teaching materials for teachers, parents, and all those involved in drugs education, contact the PHSE Inspector . DRUGS AND ALCOHOL PROBLEMS

Services are provided for detoxification by Ealing and Hammersmith Mental Health Trust and a small team of social work staff working with the trust to assess need and arrange for care and rehabilitation.
