BASIC EDUCATION FOR ADULTS

BILLS

Bills and invoices from the council can be paid at the Cash Office, Town Hall Annexe, New Broadway, Ealing, Open 9.00am-4.00pm Mon to Fri. Payments made by post should be addressed to Director of Corporate Resources, Ealing Council, PO Box 4, Ealing W5 2BZ. Cheques or postal orders must be crossed and made payable to London Borough of Ealing.

BLINDNESS

There is automatic entitlement to a travel permit for borough residents whose sight is permanently and substantially impaired. In case of visual impairment there is automatic entitlement to an orange badge to membership of the RNIB talking book service and the British wireless for the blind scheme, plus concessions on television licences and holidays. In case of partially sighted, subject to certification, some services listed above are available. For further details contact any consultant ophthalmic surgeon or ophthalmic optician. Confirmation of Registration for Disabilities and Registration as blind Under the National Assistance Act 1948 may be obtained from your local social services offices.

If you live in council accommodation, please contact the housing management team for your area. Blocked roadside gullies (but not public sewers) are also the council's responsibility. A service is provided by Environmental Health to investigate complaints of nuisance caused by bonfires.

The council is responsible for the maintenance of most road bridges in the borough. These are inspected on a regular basis. If you have any enquiries relating to bridges (but not pavements or road surfacing) contact the number below.

BUILDING ALTERATIONS AND EXTENSIONS

To erect a new building or alter or extend a house or other property, or put an existing building to a different use, you may need approval under building regulations and you may require planning permission. If you are a council tenant, you will need permission from your local housing office.

BUILT ENVIRONMENT - LOCAL AGENDA 21 GROUP

One of the Local Agenda 21 project groups bringing together the business community, environmental and residents groups and all others interested in improving the environment and quality of life in Ealing. Open to all, the LA21 Built Environment project group has initiated a range of projects addressing issues surrounding the built environment and land use, from disability access to 'greener' building materials.
